Last year at this time when I was finishing 5th grade, I thought 6th grade was going to be much harder then fifth grade and it would take a lot of time to get used to. Also I thought the classes were going to be very challenging and the teachers mush more strict.
Actually, I found out that 6th grade was not very difficult at all. The classes did take some time to get used to and it was difficult to get used to opening the lockers, the teachers were not as strict as I thought they would be and the homework was manageable.
I thought managing to get to the classes was going to be hard but it turned out to be easy. Getting there on time was easier then I thought and managing the time hardly a challenge. Having the study skills class helped as well.
I thought opening the lockers was going to be easy but it turned out to be hard. I thought all you had to do was turn the dial to the numbers and the lock would open, and that was what you were supposed to do, but it was easier said then done. I found a better way to open it was to spin the dial a few times to clear it, then turn the dial to the numbers.
Something I had no idea about but turned out to be important was the advisory. I had no idea that there were advisories or anything of the name in 6th grade. I later found that the advisories were a lot like the homeroom we had in 5th grade. We met almost everyday of the week to discuss the school events and do activities.
August 14 was the first day of school. I remember that when I first entered the middle-school area I saw a huge crowd of 7th, 8th and 6th graders in front of the assembly room and the 6th graders were looking a a board showing the advisers. Then Mr.Pado told all the students to go into the assembly room. Then he introduced the advisers and dismissed us all by advisers. After the advisers talked to us about our classes and then sent us off to our classes.
September 20 we had class retreats. I remember we went to the American Recreational Association or the American club. There we swam in the pool and practiced our activities for th FFC. Then we went to the FFC and there we did our assigned activities and then we headed back to school.
Tom Birdseye visited our school. He discussed his life as an author and how he got ideas to create his stories. He discussed how his family helped him in his stories and how real-world events could be made into a story.
We took ISA tests in October. They were very stressful to do because I thought that the time-limit was always going to expire so I did all the problems in a hurry. It was worth-while when I finished and got the results.
We had a big break from October 14 - 20. I stayed in Dhaka and ate, slept, played, ate, slept played and so on and so on. It was extremely enjoyable not having to worry about homework for a while.
Parent conferences were in late October. They made me feel a bit nervous as I had a few bad grades in some classes and was nervous that the teachers were going to say something that would make my parents angry at me. After the conference I felt a lot better.
I got my first middle school report card and was happy to see that I did not do very bad for my first report card in middle school. My parents were happy as well.
At the recognition assemblies I was recognized for Honor roll and once High-Honor roll. My parents were happy that I did not get any Cs and did what they told me to do.
I performed in a concert. The first being the very first concert for Beginning Band and the second being the last concert for us. Mr.Arrastia said we all did great.
We went on a class trip to Thailand from March 2-6. I remember that we had to sleep in tents and take care of ourselves without our parents. I was nervous that this was my first trip without my parents.
There were a lot of changes this year. Something I was really good at was humanities. Most of the people were not good at this but i think this was my most favorite subject.
Something I wasn't so good at was Math. When I was younger(like in 2nd and 3rd grade) I was very good in Math. But when i got to 4th 5th and now 6th grade I was not as good as before.
Something I would like to improve on is Math. I now this subject will be extremely helpful in life and I want to learn as much as I can on it.
Spring Break was April 6-12. I did what I always do in long breaks, eat, sleep, play etc. I did enjoy these breaks as I did not have them in my old school.
Next year I am hoping to improve on my math skills and learn all that this school has to teach in 7th grade.
